Cirque du Soleil's Mystere in Las Vegas
The concept for Cirque du Soleil's Mystere started around the year 1990. The original venue for the production had been Caesar's Palace. During that time, its theme had been based on Roman and Greek mythology. However, this plan has been scrapped by the executives of the casino, with the thought that the project can be risky. This is due to the fact that the production is entirely different from the common scarves and feather boa shows of Vegas. Three years later, Treasure Island adopted Mystere. This chance provided Cirque du Soleil a fresh creative territory.
Compared to the other productions, this show is the first to have its very own theater. The past shows of Cirque du Soleil have been successful through its performances and tours within the various cities in North America and all throughout the globe. This has also been the first time that Cirque du Soleil gets to collaborate with a huge financial partner, the Mirage Casino Hotel. But due to the conservative tastes of Cirque du Soleil's client, their creative power and imagination have been limited. The new venue of Mystere also brought along changes to its thematic elements. The production concentrated on the life origins of the universe, putting in some mythological components. The theme of the show inspired its set design, music, and costumes.
The characters of Cirque de Soleils Mystere include The Spermatites and Spermatos, the Firebird, and the Les Laquais who were the footmen of the universe. Then there are Brian Le Petit, Bebe Francois, Bebebe, and Le Vache a Lait who is the protector of infants. The other characters are the Man in Pink, the Belle, the Black Widow, the Birds of Prey, the Green Lizard, and the Double Faces. The performers of Mystere are actually based out of Quebec. Because of the success of this production, it has broken new ground for the performers.
