Cyrano De Bergerac is a play produced last December 28, 1897, in Paris at the Theater de la Porte Saint-Martin, with Constant Coquelin performing the title role. The premiere was on October 3, 1898, in the Garden Theater, New York City, with Richard Mansfield as Cyrano.
Cyrano De Bergerac, a guardsman and a poet, is cursed with a huge, bulging, burgeoning beak of a nose. In order for him to compensate in his belief that no woman will love him with his affliction, he made himself prominent in Paris for his own bravery and the fascination of his verse.
