Wicked The Musical is a Phenomenom

The musical Wicked had its debut on Broadway on October 30, 2003. It's a musical that explores more on the concept of Elphaba's character, the Wicked Witch of the West. The direction of Wicked was handled by Joe Montello, and the musical casting was done by Wayne Cilento. The casts of Wicked stars Idina Menzel as Elphaba, Kristin Chenoweth as Glinda and Joel Gray as the Wizard. The musical proved its critics such as The New York Times who panned the show that it was a hit among its patrons by becoming a phenomenon in the theaters.

Because of the musical production's success, Wicked spawned other productions in Los Angeles, Chicago, Tokyo, London, Stuttgart and West End. The musical even had a North American tour in over 30 cities in the United States and in Canada.

All over the world, Wicked musical made box office records. It holds weekly-gross-taking hits in Los Angeles, Chicago, London and New York. The musical also holds the fastest record in opening £100,000 in just slightly over an hour in the West End. The productions in the West End made shows for more than 800,000 audiences and was seen by 2 million patrons during its North American tour.

During the 2004 Tony Awards, Wicked had ten nominations and it won the categories on Best Actress in a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical and Best Costume Design of a Musical. Also in 2004, Wicked won six Drama Desk Awards and the musical got nominated in 2007 for four Laurence Oliver Awards. The score of the Wicked musical was heavily thematic. It was critiqued to have less bearing in the musical sense and more resemblance to a film score.
