The Color Purple Live!
The Color Purple is a musical based from Alice Walker's novel of the same title. On December 1, 2007, The Color Purple had its debut at the Broadway Theater in Broadway. The musical is directed by Gary Griffin, book by Marsha Norman, lyrics and music by Allee Willis, Stephen Bray and Brenda Russell. It is produced by Scott Sanders with co-producers Oprah Winfrey and Quincy Jones, while the choreography by Donald Byrd.
The stars of The Color Purple's original production includes LaChanze as Celie, Felicia Fields playing Sofia, Renee Elise Goldberry as Nettie and Elizabeth Withers-Mendes as Shug Avery, Brandon Victor Dixon as Harpo, Kingsley Leggs as Mister, and Krisha Marcano as Squeak. Celie the title role in the musical has been played by many Broadway performers like Kenita R. Miller and Jeannette Bayardelle. As of April 10, 2007, the role of Celie is now performed by Fantasia Barrino.
