The original production of Spamalot has been critically and financially successful. The ticket for the musical according to Variety had an advance sale of $18 million. The ticket was sold to prices up to $179 down to $36. It was the advance ticket sales that made Spamalot a box office history in Broadway.
The original Broadway production of Spamalot received 14 nominations from Tony Award, it was the only show in the 2004-2005 seasons that did. From all of the nominations, Spamalot won three Tony Awards and those awards include Best Musical, Best Direction of a Musical (Mike Nichols) and Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical (Sara Ramirez).
The music of the show was a collaboration between Eric Idle and John Du Prez, lyrics and book by Eric Idle and directed by Mike Nichols. The productions of the musical was done in Chicago in 2004, Broadway in 2005, West End and North American tour in the year 2006 and in Las Vegas and Australia in 2007.
