Spamalot Live at a Theater Near You!
Spamalot is a comedic Broadway musical ripped off so lovingly from the film Monty Python and the Holy Grail. The musical is much more different from the film in so many ways. The musical book and lyrics was written by a member of the Monty Python team, Eric Idle and the music was collaborated with John Du Prez, directed by Mike Nichols. The 2004-2005 season of the Spamalot musical had won three Tony Awards and one of them was a Tony Award for Best Musical.
Spamalot, a comedic musical had a tagline of being the newest Broadway musical, lovingly taken out from the Monty Python and the Holy Grail motion picture. The film and the musical differ from each other in many different ways especially when it comes to the irreverent parodies of Broadway Theater.
The title of the musical was derived from a line in the motion picture Monty Python and the Holy Grail. Eric Idle explained how the musical got its title in a press release on February 2004. The audience liked it as much as Eric Idle did; he even made a remark that they will be the one shelling out money to pay to see the show. The movie line goes like this: 'we eat ham and jam and Spam a lot.'
