Mary Poppins the Musical

Mathew Bourne who co-directed the musical, also acted as the musical's co-choreographer alongside Stephen Mear. In November 2006, a production team with the same creative efforts opened up in Broadway. The production in Broadway held shows with only minor adjustments from the version of the West End productions.

With the success of Mary Poppins in the West End production, the transfer of the musical to Broadway after previews of the show from October 14 had its debut at the New Amsterdam Theater on November 16, 2006. The role of Bert was originally performed by Gavin Lee in the West End production and reprised it in the production made in Broadway. The title role of Mary Poppins for the musical was given to Ashley Brown a Broadway performer.

Mary Poppins won various awards for different categories from various award-giving bodies. The musical took the 2007 Tony Award for the Best Scenic Design of a Musical (Bob Crowley); 2007 Drama Desk Award for Outstanding featured Actor in a Musical (Gavin Lee) and Outstanding Set Design of a Musical (Bob Crowley); 2005 Laurence Olivier Award for Best Actress in a Musical (Laura Michelle Kelley) and Best Theater Choreographer (Stephen Mear); 2005 Evening Standard Theater Award for Best Designer (Bob Crowley); and Theatregoer's Choice for Best Designer (Bob Crowley)
