Hairspray The Musical
The musical's first ever international production did run for more than two hundred performances in Toronto on the year 2005. Popular artists served as characters for these particular plays such as Vanessa Olivarez, which was a former American Idol who starred as Tracy Turnblad in the play, and also Jay Brazeau which also starred as Edna. A more exciting play was adapted as a musical film two years after their first international production which was starred by Nikky Blonsky as Tracy Turnblad and the ever popular John Travolta starring as Edna Turnblad. Other version in which the production was opened at Shaftesbury Theater on the 11th of October last year which was under the London West End Production. It was done particularly for previews before the official opening which was to be on the 30th of October. Edna is characterized by Michael Ball, with Mell Smith playing as Wilbur Turnblad, Leanne Jones, the new comer, as Tracy, the actress Tracie Bennett, from Coronation Street, portraying the role of Velma, and Ben Ellis portraying the role of Link Larkin. Director Jack O'Brien and choreographer Jerry Mitchell were the ones helming the original team of the musical production which is to be reunited for the ever London production. Such productions have opened around the globe, in North America to be particular, Northern and Eastern Europe, East and Southeast Asia, and will soon open on Central Europe and on the South America by this year. As it has opened on several international locations, it has also been given some translations yet translated into six notable languages, which are the Finnish, Japanese, Italian, Korean, German, Spanish, and Portuguese yet they are also still on going with these translations.
Enjoying much from its North American tours and several international productions, it has also won several awards, recognitions, and nominations. Some awards and nominations of which were from the Tony Awards, the Drama Desk Awards, and the Theater Awards. The musical has played for more than a thousand musicals on theaters and is still going.
