Grease the Musical!
Before it was beaten by A Chorus Line, another noted Broadway musical, Grease came to a point of becoming the longest'running Broadway musical play in the history of Broadway musicals and the like. After this, Grease turned out to become a West End hit, a very successful 1978 film which had a sequel in 1982, a Broadway revival in 1994. It soon became a standard for middle school and high school drama groups, community theatre, regional theatre, and summer stock theatre.
The Broadway musical's main characters were Betty Rizzo and Danny Zuko. Both of which were the leaders of their respective gang. Betty Rizzo was the strong and the ironic leader of the Pink Ladies Gang. Danny Zuko, on the other hand, was the gorgeous, manly leader of the Burger Palace Boys. Other notable characters include Sandy, Frenchy, Marty, Teen Angel, Roger, Cha-Cha, Eugene Florczyk, Leo, Vince Fontaine, Kenickie, Doody, Jan, Sonny, Patty Simcox, Johnny Casino, and Miss Lynch.
The Broadway musical play won several awards, garnered several honors, and recognized in some of the greatest award giving bodies. During one of their productions in 1972, Addrienne Barbeau was given a particular award by the Theater World Awards. The musical play also received the Drama Desk Award for Outstanding Choreography and for Most Promising Costume Design. It also garnered several nominations from the Tony Awards. On the Broadway musical's revival in 1994, Brooke Shields was able to receive an award in the Theater World Award. During that same year, the musical play also received several nominations from the Tony Awards and the Drama Desk Awards.
