Disney's The Little Mermaid
Pre-Broadway tryout of the musical ended in September 2007 in Denver, Colorado. Lunt-Fontanne Theater, home of Beauty and the Beast one of Disney Theatrical's shows closed in July 2007. This is to make way for The Little Mermaid's new production, with previews on Broadway starting November 2007. The musical is set to make its debut on January 10, 2008.
The production history of The Little Mermaid begun with a pre-Broadway tryout that started from July 26, 2007 to September 9, 2007 at the Denver Center for the Performing Arts' Ellie Caulkins Opera House. It was a total success that the entire available seat which was approximately 95,000 was sold out for the six-week run.
Previews of the musical on Broadway begun on November 3, 2007 at the Lunt-Fontanne Theater, however in November 10, because of the Local One stage-hands strike, the production temporarily shut down. The previews resumed on November 29 when the strike ended on November 28. However, the official opening date of The Little Mermaid had to be moved to January 10, 2007 from its previous date of December 6, 2007, to be able to continue with the process of the previews.
Francesca Zambello directed The Little Mermaid and had her debut on Broadway with the musical production. The choreography of the musical by Stephen Mear, costume design by Tatiana Noginova, scenic design by George Tsypin and the lighting design by Natasha Katz.
