Biography of the Cavaliers

The Virginia Cavaliers are the athletics teams from the University of Virginia. They have been participating in Atlantic Coast Conferences right since 1953. The Virginia Cavaliers have won many national championships in variety of sports like Soccer, Lacrosse and Boxing. Virginia Cavaliers teams are simply referred to as Virginia, while another nickname for the teams 'the Wahoos' is also famous.

It was in the 1890s, when Washington and Lee baseball fans first called Virginia players as 'a bunch of rowdy Wahoos,' perhaps after hearing them sing 'wah-hoo-wah.' The name 'Wahoos' caught on. In recent times, both the students and media commonly use the term Wahoos or Hoos in reference to Virginia Cavaliers teams. At any game of the Virginia teams, you will hear the word wah-hoo-wah along with the flash of the Orange and Navy Blue color, which is the official color of the teams selected back in 1888, and their Cavalier mascot, a mounted swordsman.
