History of the Hurricanes

The Miami Hurricanes are in the Division I Bowl Subdivision. The Hurricanes compete in the Atlantic Coast Conference. The head coach is Randy Shannon. He is the sixth African American coach in the league. They play at Dolphin Stadium in Miami Gardens in Florida. The stadium can seat 76,000 people.

The team originated in 1926. They started out with a student trying to come up with plans for a 50,000 seat arena. Finally the president made a ruling to start on the building. Then a hurricane came in 1926 and killed over 130 people. So the plans were shelved for the present time. 1946 saw the Jack Harding era where he spent nine seasons trying to get the team in shape. They didn't win a lot of games but they had the spirit. Andy Gufstason came along in 1948. Miami at this point in time was prohibited from the Bowls for three years.
