Maryland Terrapins Background Information

The Maryland Terrapins are in the NCAA Division I-FBS and compete n he Atlantic Coast Conference. They hail from the University of Maryland. They are commonly referred to as the 'Terps.' They have a history of nine ACC championships, two national, two from the Southern Conference, and many All-Americans and Hall of Fame inductees.

The team originated in 1892. They played three games and never scored once. 1911 brought Harry Byrd, a new coach, and in their fist six matches, they were undefeated. From 1918 to 1920, the Terrapins played in the Southern Intercollegiate games. They then joined the Southern Conference ad stayed there for almost thirty years. Frank Dobson took over in 1936 and led the Terrapins to even more victories. Paul Bryant came in 1945. He was a long time coach for Alabama. He only served one year of coaching though because of a conflict within the department.
