The Proud History of the Fighting Illini

The Illinois Fighting Illini play in the NCAA Division I-A. They are members of the Big Ten Conference. The Illini have won at least fourteen Conference titles. The team first originated in 1890. They play at Memorial Stadium which has a seating capacity of 65,000. Ron Zook is the current head coach in his third year of coaching the Illini. Their current record is 594-453-49. Their major rivals are the Purdue Boilermakers, the Northwestern Wildcats, and Ohio State Buckeyes.

The Illini have competed and won at least four national championships in the years 1914, 1919, 1923, and 1927. They also were involved in the 1951 National Championships and won those as well.
