The History of the Warriors

The Hawaii Warriors call the University of Hawaii in Manoa home. This team is in the NCAA Division I-FBS and part of the Western Athletic Conference. The current head coach is Greg McMackin. The team plays at the Aloha Stadium.

The team was created in 1909 and played their first game against McKinley High School and beat them 6-5. 1920 brought a game against Nevada. They lost 14-0 on Christmas Day. In 1923, a rainbow appears after Hawaii defeats Pomona 25-6. This led to the teams at the University of Hawaii to start being called the 'Rainbow Warriors.' 1926 led to the 'Rainbows' playing at their newly constructed field of Honolulu Stadium. They lost the game 14-7. 1942 brought the attack on Pearl Harbor and the University of Hawaii cancels its games through 1945.
