The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets: A Brief History

The Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets hail from the Georgia Institute of Technology and are a Division I-A team. They are a member of the Atlantic Coast Conference. The Jackets hold a record of 649-436-43 since 1892. They play at the Bobby Dodd Stadium in Atlanta Georgia. The Jackets have won four Division championships and fourteen conference title games.

The school also has the most numbers of players who go onto play in the NFL. So far, the count is over one hundred and forty. A former coach of the Jackets was John Heisman, the same man for whom the trophy is named. They started out in 1892 as the Blacksmiths. From 1892 to 1905, the team won only eight games out of 45. William Alexander took over after Heisman left as head coach. He had attended Georgia Tech and wanted the team to be a good one. In 1928, he led the Jackets to their fist Bowl game appearance. In 1952, Bobby Dodd took over coaching the Jackets. He led the team in precise practices instead of very intense ones. The Jackets hit a thirty one game winning streak under his coaching.
