All About the Bulldogs
The Fresno State Bulldogs are in the NCAA Division I-FBS. They are part of the WAC Conference. The Bulldogs represent California State University in Fresno. Their current coach is Pat Hill who has been with the Bulldogs since 1997.
In 1921, the first games of football were played on the Fresno campus. The Bulldogs were able to join the Northern California Athletic Conference in 1925 as a charter school. In 1962, they had their first undefeated season.
In 1976, Jim Sweeney took over the team and led hem to a 9-2 season in 1977. They continued with nine consecutive winning seasons. In 1997, Pat Hill was brought in to take over head coaching from Sweeney for the Bulldogs. Under his leadership, the Bulldogs have always played the highest ranked teams and beat them. They defeated twelve teams which was unheard of for any team lower on the BCS scale. 2005 brought the Bulldogs seven straight wins for the season, and they even captured their first win against Hawaii and Boise State. In 2006, they suffered major losses like a missing quarterback, a messed up schedule, and running back defense and offense problems. After not having a great season in 2006, 2007 brought the Bulldogs a 9-4 winning season, and they also defeated Georgia Tech in the Humanitarian Bowl.
