A Brief History of the Gators

Being in the Southeastern Conference and a Division I team, the Florida Gators have been champions seven times in the Southeast Conference. In 1996 and 2006, they were the national champions of the season. The Gators usually play an eight game season and they always have a couple of showdowns with their rival, The University of Miami.

The Gators team started in 1906 as just a varsity team of guys looking to have some fun. Between 1907 and 1915, they faced most of their current rivals of today. These include South Carolina and Auburn. In 1932, the Gators joined the Southeastern Conference along with some of those same rivals. In the 1960's, the Gators had made a record of how many wins they had under their belt. The number was up at 70, and the record was not broken for thirty years.
