Information about the Capital One Bowl

The Capital One Bowl is an annual bowl game played in Orlando, Florida. It is a college football bowl game played at the Citrus Bowl which was earlier known as The Tangerine Bowl between 1947 and 1982 and later as The Florida Citrus Bowl from 1983 to 2001. Capital One, a financial service organization has sponsored the Capital bowl since 2001. At that time the bowl was known as the Capital One Florida Citrus Bowl. Since 2003 it has been identified with the unique Capital One Bowl moniker.

The Capital One Bowl is conducted by Florida Citrus Sports which is a non profit organization that also is in charge of the Florida Classic and the Champs Sports Bowl. After it became the premiere bowl, the Capital One Bowl was held at 1 p.m. on New Years Day immediately after the Rose Bowl. Both games are shown on the ABC. The Capital One had bid to become the 5th BCS game but lost because of the stadium's old condition. In July 2006 there was a voting in support of spending about 1.1 billion dollars to build a new arena and upgrading the Citrus Bowl.
