Ball State University's athletic teams are also referred to as the Cardinals. The history of Ball State University and the school's very first Cardinal team dates back to 1926. The Ball State University Cardinals are members of the NCAA Mid-American Conference and are located in Muncie, Indiana. Ball State Cardinals are a college football team whose school is not in affiliation with any conference and who have automatic bids to the Bowl Championship Series otherwise called the BCS. The term mid-major is not an official term and was only a creation of the sports media. This term is used to describe Ball State Cardinals.
