Toronto Maple Leafs is one of the best teams in the professional NHL at present and is based at Toronto in Canada. In 1917, the Arena Company who is the owners of the Arena Gardens took the mantle of bringing in the Toronto Blueshirts players as a temporary team to play in the then rebel group NHL, which was formed as its members has a dispute with the Eddie Livingstone, owner of the Toronto Blueshirts. The Blueshirts or the Toronto's won the inaugural NHL season by wining the Stanley Cup.

In the next season, the Arena Company formed its own team called the Toronto Arena Hockey Club and was granted a full fledged membership by the NHL association. Livingston started to sue the Arena Company in a bid to win his players and the huge legal bills made the Arenas to halt their operations in 1919. This legal duel forced the Arena Company to sell the Arenas and team manager Querrie gathered some players from the St. Patricks team and named it as Toronto St. Patricks for which he held ownership till 1927.
