A Brief History of the Sharks

The Sharks finished last in their division in the next two seasons. During this time, they got a new coach, Al Sims, and acquired forward Owen Nolan. They acquired Mike Vernon from The Detroit Red Wings in the 1997-98 season, and with Darryl Stutter as their new coach, qualified for the playoffs for three seasons in a row, advancing past the first round. In the 1999-2000 playoffs, The Sharks upset St. Louis Blues as fantastically as they upset The Red Wings in 1993-94. The team acquired star Teemu Selanne in 2000-01, as their goaltender Evgeni Nabokov won the Calder Memorial Trophy.

The Sharks won the Pacific Divison in 2001-02 and advanced to the second round of playoffs. San Jose Sharks posted 104 points in the 2003-04 season, winning the Pacific Division again and went on to the Western Conference Finals. They put up 99 points in 2005-06 and 107 points in 2006-07, finishing second in the Pacific Division and reaching the Western Conference semifinals on both occasions.
