The Flyers: Past and Present

Philadelphia Flyers is a team of ice hockey players in Philadelphia. They belong to the Atlantic division of eastern conference of National Hockey League. They are one of the expansion teams to bag the Stanley cup both in 1974 and in 1975. They have a good winning percentage in the league. They have played mostly at Broad street and then at Wachovia center.

Philadelphia Flyers started playing in 1967-68 when they lost to California seals 5-1. They won for the first time against St. Louis Blues 2-1. It was however in the 1972-73 season that they became quite intimidating and were nicknamed "Broad street bullies". They performed consistently for the season. In 1976-84 they were in the semi-finals for the fifth consecutive term. They however lost and got the second place. In the next few seasons the flyers had lived up to the expectations of the fans. In the 2005-06 season they played 82 games out of which they won 45 games. They finished 2nd in their division. The 2006-07 season was beset with problems in the team. The team was without some of the most able players like Michal Handzus, Kim Johnsson, Eric Desjardins, and Keith Primeau. They played a total of 82 games in the 2006-07 season and bagged 22 wins. They finished 5th in the Atlantic division.
