About the All Star Game

NHL All-Star Game is an exhibition game that is played in the middle of the regular season of NHL. Some of the members of the contending teams are chosen by the fans while the rest are picked by the hockey operations department of the league. The NHL All-Star skills competition is held prior to the game wherein the players display their talents.

The first official all-star game was played in 1947-48. The first all star ice hockey was played in 1908 between Montreal wanderers and a team drawn from the Eastern Canada Amateur Hockey Association. In 2000 world defeated North America 9-4. In 2001 North America defeated world 14-12. In 2002 world defeated North America 8-5. In 2003 west defeated east by 6-5. In 2004 east defeated west 6-4. Some of the top scorers in the game are: Wayne Gretzky with 25 points, Mario Lemieux with 23 points, Joe Sakic with 22 points, Mark Messier with 20 points and Gordie Howe with 19 points. There is a suggestion from the fans that there be international games that would include countries like Sweden, United States, Finland, and Russia. This would involve the fans of not only North America but Europe as well which would lead to more exposure and more revenues for the League.
