A Brief History of the Islanders
NY Islanders acquired superstar Butch Goring in 1980, and finally won their first Stanley Cup with centerman Bryan Trottier being awarded the Conn Smythe Trophy for his contributions to the playoffs. The next season was as lucrative for NY Islanders as this one with the 1981 Stanley Cup in their hands, a feat of 50 goals in 50 matches for Mike Bossy and the Conn Symthe Trophy for Butch Goring. 1982 again saw The Islanders perform magically winning 15 games consecutively, setting a franchise-record 118 points and winning the Stanley Cup. Bossy got the Conn Symthe Trophy, setting a record 147 points in 80 games.
NY Islanders did it again in 1983, defeating the promising Edmonton Oilers to clutch the Stanley Cup fourth time in a row. The Islanders remained competitive in the following years, reaching Stanley Cup Finals again. Retirement and mismanagement plagued The Islanders thereon. In 2007, after ownership changing many hands and new players being brought in, they made it to the playoffs again and regained the lost respect.
