A Brief History of the Islanders

NY Islanders started playing in 1972 boasting of stars like forward Ed Westfall, Billy Harris and defenseman Denis Potvin. In the very fourth year after their formation, The Islanders made a total of 101 points, the fifth best for any team, winning a lot of fans. Bryan Trottier with his 95 points was awarded the Calder Trophy that year. NY Islanders reached the semifinals of The Stanley Cup in 1976 and 1977 successively. In 1977; Mike Bossy joined the team and scored 53 goals in the season, winning the Calder Trophy. For the next five seasons, The Islanders scored over 100 points consecutively.
