Edmonton Oilers Background Information

The Edmonton Oilers, formed in 1972, possessed superstars such as Al Hamilton, Blair MacDonald and Dave Dryden, and in 1978 acquired the legendary Wayne Gretzky who was still under-aged. The Oilers finished at the top of the World Hockey Association standings in the 1978-79 season, thanks to all its superstars. Edmonton Oilers joined the National Hockey League in 1979 and played just five seasons to become the first NHL team to score 400 goals. Wayne Gretzky won Art Ross Trophy every year from 1980 to 1986, and the Hart Trophy for the first eight seasons he played.
