About the Blue Jackets

Columbus Blue Jackets finished with just 69 points in 2002-03. The team replaced their coach during the season and had Doug MacLean as their new coach. The Jackets failed to succeed in the following season, as well, replacing MacLean with Gerard Gallant. They acquired center Todd Marchant from Edmonton Oilers. Rick Nash scored 41 goals to jointly win the Rocket Richard Trophy, when The Jackets put up a low total of just 62 points. The team acquired Sergie Federov in 2005, and started performing better. The team had the best team record in the month of January, finished third in the Central Division with 74 points and 35 wins.

In 2006, The Blue Jackets replaced their coach with former Dallas Stars and Philadelphia Flyers coach Ken Hitchcock. The Jackets also signed Anson Carter and acquired forward Fredrik Modin. The 2006-07 season had some surprises coming when The Blue Jackets scored five power-play goals for their win against The Ottawa Senators. They finished with 73 points that season. The Jackets named Scott Howson as their new general manager in 2007, and later that year signed Michael Peca on a one-year deal.
