Bio of the Thrashers

This is a team of ice hockey players in Atlanta. They belong to the southeast division of eastern conference of NHL. They play their home games at Philips arena. The name "Thrashers" was chosen by a poll. The team was named so after the state bird of Atlanta. The mascot of the team is the bird, thrasher. The team got the NHL Franchise in 1997. They started their game in 1999 but lost to New Jersey devils 4-1. The ownership of the team changed hands in 2003 when Atlanta spirit took over the team. During this time the team suffered a severe blow when one of the players Dany Heatley got injured in a car crash and another player Dan Snyder died in the same accident. The team dedicated the 2003-04 season to the memory of Snyder. In the 2006-07 season the team managed to reach the playoffs.
