About the Super Bowl: The Biggest Game In Sports

The first Super Bowl game was played on the 15th of January in 1965 and was formed out of the agreement between the National Football League and the American Football League who were constantly competing for fans and players. This rivalry finally led to a merger in 1966 and an agreement that the winners of each championship league game would compete in the Super Bowl to know the world champions of football for the season.

The game is played once a year on a Sunday and the game date has gone from the second week in January to the last Sunday in January but is now played on the first Sunday of February. Forty one games have been played in all and at several locations, which are selected about five years before the game by the NFL. The first two Super Bowl competitions were won by Green bay Packers and the most victories recorded have been from three teams that have won five times each; the San Francisco 49ers, Dallas Cowboys, and the Pittsburgh Steelers. The NFL Alumni organizes an annual "Player of the Year" dinner where top players are honored and money is raised for charity.
