About the Steelers

Pittsburgh Steelers are an American professional football franchise with headquarters in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. Arthur J. Rooney established the team on July 8, 1933. The Pittsburgh Steelers is the fifth oldest of all of the football franchises under the NFL. Pittsburgh Steelers were originally called the Pittsburgh Pirates until 1940 and are a present member of the AFC North.

The Pittsburgh Steelers appeared to have a hard time getting success for the first forty years that they were a professional football team. Because they just could not seem to win any championship. Art Rooney Jr. paid $2,500 franchise entry fee. The Steelers are heirs to the first pro-football team to emerge. Pittsburgh was the team that hosted the world's first pro-game ever in the 1880s. This very early franchise however could not survive in light of their state's very tough blue laws that were in effect before 1933. These blue laws specifically did not allow any sporting events of any kind to take place on Sundays.
