A Brief History of the Raiders

Oakland Raiders are based in Oakland city, California. The professional football team was established in 1960 and presently plays in the Western division of the AFC of the NFL (National Football League). They were the eight chartered member of the AFL. On January 30th, 1960 the AFL granted a franchise spot to the City of Oakland to replace Minnesota Vikings that had left to join the NFL. The city council formed a team of limited partners to own and manage the team; among them was F Wayne Valley. The team name was picked from the third name chosen after a public name picking contest.
