The Exciting History of the Patriots

The New England Patriots play professional American football in the greater Boston area near the home games in Fox borough, Massachusetts. The New England Patriots are also referred to as the 'Pats' by many fans and columnists. The New England Patriots are a part of the Eastern Division of the American Football Conference in the National Football League. It was originally called the Boston Patriots but the relocation of the team to Fox Borough in 1971 lead to change in the name.

The New England Patriots were members of the AFL. They joined the NFL in 1970 from the merger of the leagues. The team had their turn of playoffs for at least 4 times before they finally made it to the Super Bowl XX in January 1986. However, they lost out to the Chicago Bears. They tried again, making Super Bowl XXXI in 1997 but again lost out this time to the Green Bay Packers.
