History of the Browns

The Cleveland Browns began their career in 1946 playing as the chart members of the All-America Football Conference. After this they joined the NFL in 1950 and the AAFC afterwards. The Cleveland Browns are a professional football team in the U.S. They are based in Cleveland in Ohio. The Cleveland Browns play for the AFC North division. The AFC is a divisional part of the NFL. The Cleveland Browns have been champions holders of the AAFC titles and various other NFL championships.

The Cleveland Browns did not play the season from 1996-1999. There were problems about the original team, Baltimore Ravens' relocation and after a lot of legal battles it was decided that the Cleveland Browns would be 'deactivated' for a period of 3 years till a new stadium was built for the team. The Baltimore Ravens would come out from The Cleveland Browns and be set up as a new franchise retaining the players and other personnel. The Cleveland Browns were thus a new team would but according to the legal settlements would retain the name, history, records, awards, etc and would still be in Cleveland. This period was also used by the other teams like the Tampa Bay Buccaneers to find help from various tax payers to fund a new stadium. The team returned to NFL in 1999.
