History of the Cardinals

Arizona Cardinals is the name of an American Football team in Glendale Arizona, a little away from Phoenix. They are placed in the National Football Conference, Western Division of the National Football League. The Arizona Cardinals are recognized as the oldest professional American football club playing in the US.

The team was originally called the Morgan Athletic and was formed in Chicago, in 1898. The club was then located in Normal Park on Chicago Racine Avenue and was thus also called the 'Racine Normals'. They later changed their name again to Racine Cardinals. In 1920, the club changed identity again, this time to Chicago Cardinals and during that year became a charted member of the National Football League (NFL). With world war going on, the Chicago cardinals merged with Pittsburgh Steelers during the 1944 season and were called the Card-Pitt. They moved again in 1960 to Louis, Missouri and were renamed to become the St Louis Cardinals also called the Football Cardinals or Gird Birds to differentiate them from a similar named baseball team. The club tried to get a new stadium in St Louis but when that failed they moved to Phoenix, first playing at the Sun Devil Stadium, Tempe under the name Phoenix Cardinals which was later changed to Arizona Cardinals in 1994. In 2006, they moved to their present location which is the University of Phoenix, Glendale where they now play all their home games.
