Jimmy Buffett is Coming to a Venue Near You!
His 1977 breakthrough hit "Margaritaville" endeared him into the hearts of his many fans, affectionately referred to as "Parrotheads." He has recorded more than 30th albums, including 8 Gold and 9 Platinum sellers. In 2003, he received his first CMA award for his duet "It's 5 O'clock Somewhere" with Alan Jackson.
Jimmy and the Coral Reefer Band's tours have become the stuff of legend, but usually have the same structure to the shows. The band plays about 26-30 songs and usually features one or two acoustic solo numbers by Jimmy. Usually about halfway into the show, a video for the fans that is unique to every tour will play during a twenty minute intermission. The band makes an effort to please hometown fans by throwing in references to the city in which they are playing.
In addition to his musical ventures, Buffett is a best selling author of such novels as "Tales from Margaritaville" and "Where's Joe Merchant?" He has also penned two children's books and an autobiography. The popularity of his music has spawned the creation of his own chain of Margaritaville Cafe and Cheeseburger in Paradise restaurants as well as a line of margarita mixes, shirts and footwear.
Jimmy has lent his name and time to several causes throughout his career. Most of his work has been with the "Save the Manatee Club" , a charity he founded with a former governor of Florida. In 2004 he raised $3.4 million dollars for Hurricane Katrina relief during his "Surviving the Storm" concert.
More recently, Jimmy co-produced and contributed to the soundtrack of the movie "Hoot." The movie was near and dear to Jimmy's heart for it's focus on environmental and conservation issues. In addition to this most recent film-work, Jimmy has made cameos in movies as diverse as "Repo Man," "Hook," "Cobb," "Congo," and "From the Earth to the Moon." Jimmy also wrote the music for and made a cameo in the film "Rancho Deluxe."
