Dave Matthews on Tour!

The band was created when then bartender, Dave, was working at Miller's bar in 1990. There he met and become friends with a lawyer named Ross Hoffman, who convinced Dave to lay down a demo of some songs he had written. Dave then was introduced to Carter and LeRoi about doing some studio work together. Instead, they sought out more musicians to make their sound more whole. The band recorded a demo in early 1991 and played their first show, at an Earth Day Festival, that same year. In 2003, the band released an indie label album, called "Remember Two Things." After touring extensively early on, the band made their major label debut in 1994 with the album "Under the Table and Dreaming." Since then, the band has released a large catalog of work, including 6 studio and 7 live albums. They have won 2 Grammy awards, in 1997 and 2004.

DMB has been at the forefront in combating for-profit bootlegging and piracy of it's albums and live shows. The band and it;s management have collaborated with the US Government in a crack down on for-profit bootleggers in 1996. That effort resulted in a large-scale arrests of the manufacturers and sellers of copyrighted Dave Matthews Band CDs and DVDs. They encourage their fans to make audio recordings of their shows and trade them with other fans. In fact, they attribute much of their success to these authorized bootlegs, allowing people to discover their music by word of mouth.

In 2003, Matthews released his first solo album and toured in collaboration with musician Tim Reynolds. The band has returned to the studio and is expected to release a new album in 2008. They continue to tour much of every year, and sell out shows shows in large arenas all over the world.
