Barry Manilow Sings his Hits!
International superstar Barry Manilow, has been passionate about his music since childhood. Growing up in Brooklyn, New York, Barry began playing the accordian and piano at the age of seven. Around the time Barry was 12 or 13, his mother, Edna got remarried (his parents were divorced when Barry was a toddler. Edna and Barry then moved back in with her parents). Barry credits his stepfather, William (Willie) Murphy for expanding his interest in music. While Willie drove a beer truck for a living, he was a very intelligent man with many varied interests. Willie's extensive record collection was like a found treasure for the budding musician in Barry. It was his introduction to such jazz greats like Frank Sinatra, Count Basie, Duke Ellington, and to tunes from hit Broadway musicals, such as Carousel, Kismet, and The King and I.
