The Wiggles Family Show Information
Starting on such a humble beginning, their first public appearance was at a pre-school in Randwick, Australia. Through the kind help of ABC or Australian Broadcasting Corporation, their first albums were distributed and allotted widely in Australia. Tours then were planned after their first CD was released and their first national tour comprised on shopping centers at Westfield, around Sydney. It was there where they performed appearances and shows which were supported and encouraged by the nursing mothers' association. Their show earnings were donated to charities or better yet to the playgroups. Min Conway, who later became the band's general manager, and John Field also performed with the children's band.
The band were composed of Captain Feathersword which was the 'friendly pirate', and the animal characters Dorothy the Dinosaur, Henry the Octopus, and Wags the Dog. Each cast wears a different colored shirt, Murray in Red, Anthony in Blue, Jeff in Purple, and Greg in Yellow. This helps very young children to easily recognize the cast from each other. Yet with every public appearance, they always and consistently wear the 'Wiggles Uniform'. Each Wiggle member also settled on a routine or gimmick, or better called as a 'shtick' in which Murray played the guitar, performing magic tricks was for Greg, eating acts was for Anthony, and simply falling asleep was done by Jeff. This was done to indicate every member's character in the group and was made into pictures and caricatures to distinguish their characters and to make them easier to be recognized to young children.
They were able to release a lot of albums, videos, DVD's, TV series, and several more shows. In 2005, they were recognized as 'Australia's Exporter of the Year'. In 2006, the Wiggles were given honorary doctorate degrees, an award given by the Australian Catholic University for their outstanding contribution to early child development. They have also won several awards and honors from APRA in the years 1994, 1995, and 1996 and in ARIA for their terrific and exceptional award for the USA in 2003.
