Country singer George Strait, AKA The King of Country, is a Texas native who spent his formative years on his parent's 2000-acre cattle ranch. The son of a math teacher, George played in a rock band in high school. He enrolled in college, but dropped out to marry his high school sweetheart, Norma, and joined the military. While in the Army, George played with an on base band called Rambling Country. After Army, he heard the call of the honky tonk and began performing in bars all over Texas and Oklahoma as a solo artist and with various other bands.
