Brief History of the Jazz

In 1984, the team had their first playoff showing and was able to claim that four of its players were the leaders in major statistical categories. Also in 1984, they were able to pick up talented players such as John Stockton and Karl Malone; both were members of the United States National Basketball team at the 1992 and the 1996 Olympic Games.

Besides the superstar duo of John Stockton and Karl Malone, The Utah Jazz featured other talent that spent most of their careers building this team. Utah boasted such players as high scoring guard Adrian Dantly, and during the 1993-94 season the Jazz obtained Jeff Hornacek who helped them with his great 3 point and free throw percentages. They also picked up the great Andrei Kirilenko in the 2001-2002 seasons.

In 1987-88, the team hired a new coach Jerry Sloan and though he was winning games from 1988-89 season to the 1996-97 season and they won the Western Conference finals three times, they could not complete their mission by advancing to the finals. During the 1991-92 seasons after 8 straight playoff appearances, the team got a new arena called the Delta Center and two of their members Malone and Stockton both brought home a gold medal for the part they played on the US Dream Team who played this sport in front of the Olympic audience in Barcelona Spain.

In the more recent times the Utah Jazz has shown what they are made of by winning division titles and playing in the conference championship. They even hosted the NBA All Star game at the Delta Center. The Jazz is now winning more often and they now have much better player and are now one of the most respected franchises in the NBA.
