The Supersonics: A Brief History

In 1983 to the 1985 seasons, Barry Ackerlery brought the team from Sam Schulman during the years in which the team was having ups and downs. Then in the 1990's the Sonics once again dominated the Basketball courts by winning 4 consecutive division championships from the 1993-94 season to the 1997-98 season. During this winning season they were led by the imaginative defensive strategies of their coach George Karl. And in 1996 they made it to the finals once again, but were unable to win the game.

Soon after they loss Coach Karl, they then started to rally round to rebuild the team once again. With the help of their new coach Nate McMillian, the loosing team went on to set a franchise record by making 26 on the road victories, and ending the season with the Northwest Division Championship in the 2004-05 season.

This year the team hopes to make this the best season ever by using great players like Kevin Durant, who as a freshman at the University of Texas won the Naismith, The Wooden and AP Player of the Year, and named Consensus First Team all American. They also went all out by travelling all the way to France to grab hold to a 7 foot Center, named Johan Petro. With his size and skill became the Youngest Opening Night Starter in the franchise history books. Utilizing all the special skills of each player is a recipe for success for the team that played in 22 playoff appearances and 6 Division Champions.
