Information about the Nets

If you're interested in taking part in one of New Jersey's premiere delights, a simple courtside viewing of the Nets could very likely be in order. Although they do not have the titles under their belts that scream Bulls or Celtics, they have recently been graced by the acquisition of Rod Thorn, the genius who triggered Michael Jordan's career.

The Nets were formed in 1967, before the NBA itself was officially formed. As a franchise in the American Basketball Association, they were originally supposed to be a New York venue team. Named the Freighters, they were going to play out of the 69th Regiment Armory, before the Nicks stepped in and broke up this seemingly innocuous goal with the hopes of maintaining a monopoly on the New York theme.
