A Look at the Clippers

After two really bad seasons, the Braves were sold to Irv Levin who wanted the team in his native state, so the team was moved to San Diego California after the 1977-78 season and became the San Diego Clippers. The first season in the new city was a good one they posted a winning record with the help of new head coach Gene Shue, however it would not be good enough to get into the playoffs, and it would be the last winning season they would have for 13 years.

The continuous losing streak of the San Diego Clippers forced Irv Levin to sell the team to attorney Donald Sterling, who noticed that the team was only seeing 4500 fans per game, so he petitioned the NBA to allow him to move the team to his home town of Los Angeles.

The franchise moved to Los Angeles and changed coaches to Jim Lynam, got new players, and still lost in the first season in the new city. For the next seven seasons the losing pattern that seemed to follow the team, continued to follow the team and they were unable to make anything out of those seasons. During this time, one major change occurred to the team. Hall of Famer Elgin Baylor became the team's vice president and the GM of Basketball Operations.

During the 1991-92 season the Clippers changed coaches yet again, this time they hired Larry Brown, who took the team to its first winning season in 13 years to the playoffs for the first time in 16 years. When Brown left during the 1993-94 season, the team brought in Bob Weiss, who led the team to the worst season in Los Angeles NBA history. After one year he was fired and the team brought in head coach Bill Fitch. The team made it once again to another playoff appearance in 1997, but lost the game to the Utah Jazz.

In 1999, the team had another bad year, but they brought in Kareem Abdul Jabar and Dennis Johnson to be the assistant coaches. Kareem Abdul Jabbar only lasted for one season. In the 2002-03 season after a really poor showing by the team, head coach Alvin Gentry was replaced by assistant coach Dennis Johnson as head coach.

The team had nothing notable in the next year but in 2005-06 seasons they started winning games over some of the top teams, and were in their first playoff appearance since 1997, the clippers lost the game to Phoenix. This season many of the fans are hoping they can make it to the playoffs and bring the team their first ever Championship game.
