About the Pacers
With disappointing results, and loss of fan support, in 1979 the Pacers decided to use publicity to boost its ratings. In an unprecedented move, history was made, when basketball star, Ann Meyers, was asked to try out for the team. Although she attended training camp, she was not chosen as a team member.
It wasn't until the 1994 Eastern Conference Finals that the Pacers soared to new heights. With Reggie Miller leading the team, the Indiana Pacers became a contender team. As the following years brought highs and lows to the team, the Pacers were once again thrown into the spotlight during the 2003-2004 season, when they had their best year ever.
From humble beginnings to turbulent wins, the Indiana Pacers are best remembered for the 2004-2005 season. While involved in a heated game with the Detroit Pistons, disgruntled fans began to take over an already frustrating situation. When Ben Wallace executed a foul against Ron Artest disarray quickly took over as shocked on-lookers watched Artest hurl himself into the stands. As fans and players alike began to bash each other, the sport of basketball soon took on a new name, coined "basket brawl" which still manages to conjure up memories best forgotten.
