Denver Nuggets Background Info

They were originally called the Denver Rockets when they began in the American Basketball Association in 1967, but were forced to rename prior to entering the NBA. (The NBA already had a team using the Rockets mark out of San Diego, which is now the Houston Rockets.) The team (initially adorned in rainbow colors) found inspiration for their new name from the gold rush of Colorado in the 1800's.

In the team's history, their greatest seasons were the first two, which also landed them in the 1975-76 ABA Finals. They did put on a good fight early on after entering the NBA with division titles in the first two years. They nearly achieved a third title but missed by only one game; however, that postseason proved unfruitful for the Nuggets.
