St. Louis Cardinals Ticket Information

The St. Louis Cardinals played against the Red Sox in the World Series in 2004. This was the 3rd time the 2 teams have played with each other in the Fall Classic, with the St. Louis Cardinals winning the previous 2 in the '46 and '67 World Series. However, in 2004, the St. Louis Cardinals were swept by the Red Sox in 4 games, with the Red Sox winning their 1st WS championship in eighty-six years.

In 2006, the St. Louis Cardinals, fresh off their 2nd 100-win season in a row, moved into the 3rd venue Busch Stadium and were predicted to be preseason contenders for World Series champions by many in the media. The team became the 1st team since 1923 to win the WS in their 1st season in a new ballpark. The St. Louis Cardinals have a strong rivalry with the Cubs that started in 1885.

The St. Louis Cardinals began the '07 season defending their '06 World Series championship. In August 6, the St. Louis Cardinals tied an MLB record with 10 consecutive hits (including one walk) without an out in the bottom of the fifth inning against the Padres. This was the 3rd time the St. Louis Cardinals have had ten consecutive hits, also doing it eighty-seven years ago vs. the Boston Braves in the fourth inning, and a 2nd time in 1922 vs. the Philadelphia Phillies, sixth inning.

In late September 2007, Busch Stadium hosted its final match of the '07 season as the Houston Astros came to town. Boston Braves Cardinals' broadcaster Mike Shannon was honored before the game for his 50th anniversary of working with the organization.

The St. Louis Cardinals won their final home match in dramatic fashion as they entered the bottom of the 9th with a 3-1 deficit. After a single from Cairo and a pinch-hit walk to Ludwick, Pujols stepped up to pinch hit against closer Brad Lidge from Houston. Rick Ankiel followed with a two-run triple to send the fans home with one final home win in the '07 season. Interim General Manager John Mozeliak was announced as the new GM on October 31, 2007.
