San Diego Padres Baseball is Back in Action!

The Western Division Champion Padres finished with the lowest-ever winning percentage for a division champion in 2005. Three teams in the stronger Eastern Division finished with better records than San Diego, but they failed to qualify for the play-offs.

Then in 2005 the team moved into first place in the division. Trevor Hoffman was elected to the 2006 MLB All-Star Game in Pittsburgh. After all Hoffman became the all-time saves leader. the Padres clinched a playoff berth with a 3-1 win over the Arizona Diamondbacks. It happened on September, 2006. The Padres defeated the Diamondbacks 7-6 to win back to back division titles in the final game. In 2006 the team also opened the 2006 National League Division Series at home against the St. Louis Cardinals.

The Padres announced that they had agreed to terms on a four-year contract with 1B Adrian Gonzalez in Major League Baseball's 2007 Opening Night. The Padres' 2007 season began April 3, 2007. And Trevor Hoffman became the first pitcher in major league history. The Padres ended the season in an 89-73 tie for the NL wild card with the Colorado Rockies. The team signed Mark Prior to a one-year deal in the off-season. A University of San Diego HS graduate (now Cathedral HS) joins a team that consists of players that were local prep stars.
