The Twins are the pride and joy of Minnesota. This is the first professional baseball team to was named after a state instead of a city. The Twins have been a member of the American Leagues Central Division since 1982. This means that they play at the highest level of professional baseball. The team is named the Twins in honor of Minnesota's Twin Cities ' Minneapolis and St. Paul.
The team, walked a long way from first to worst and back again. From 1911 to 1933, the Washington Senators (the first name of the Twins) were one of the most successful franchises in baseball. The team owned such stars as Heinie Manush, Goose Goslin, Sam Rice, Bucky Harris, Joe Cronin and one of the greatest pitchers in the history of baseball, Walter Johnson. The 1940s and 1950s ' was the their time of mediocrity and futility, including six last-place finishes.
