The Los Angeles Dodgers are a Major League Baseball team. It's based in Los Angeles, California, USA. The team is in the Western Division of the National League. It was founded in 1883 in New York and it was originally called Brooklyn Dodgers.

The team joined the upstart American Association in 1884. Walter O'Malley (Real estate businessman) had acquired majority ownership of the Dodgers in 1950. The Brooklyn Dodgers played their final game at Ebbets Field in 1957

The Dodgers were returned to family ownership in 2004. The team parted ways with several more longtime players during the winter of 2004-05. The Dodgers did manage to win the NL West in 2004. However they bowed out quickly in four games in the Division Series to the eventual National League champion St. Louis Cardinals.
